Srinagar, J&K – Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has directed his administration to demonstrate tangible improvements in governance and public service delivery within the next six months.
Speaking at a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, marking the resumption of government work in the summer capital, Abdullah emphasized that governance must extend beyond administrative offices. He stressed the need for visible progress on the ground, particularly in implementing budget allocations and development projects.
“We need to focus on things that are under our control and work to ease the difficulties faced by common people,” Abdullah stated. He urged officials to ensure that the current working season translates into concrete results, not just administrative activity. “Let’s focus on the deliverables. So that six months from now, when we have to move to Jammu, we can actually sit down with a list of all the positive developments and changes that in spite of the circumstances, we were able to make here,” he said.
Abdullah highlighted the importance of executing the budget passed in March, directing departments to accelerate work on development projects, especially in sectors like Power, Roads & Buildings (R&B), Public Health Engineering (PHE), Health, and Social Welfare. He also mentioned his recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the central government’s commitment to ensuring the Pahalgam attack does not derail development efforts in J&K.
Addressing the impact of recent events on tourism, Abdullah called for a smooth Amarnath Yatra. He also expressed optimism about the soon-to-be-inaugurated Rail-to-Kashmir project.
“The people have put us here to work together to deliver on their expectations,” Abdullah concluded, urging unity and a focus on delivering results.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo assured the Chief Minister that all arrangements were in place for the smooth functioning of offices in Srinagar.
