Vehicle Seized with Illegal Khair Wood in Gharota, Jammu

Jammu – In the early hours of Thursday, a joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Forest Department successfully intercepted a vehicle illegally transporting Khair wood. The incident occurred around 4:00 AM near Kanger Morh in the Gharota area.

Officials at a naka point attempted to stop a Scorpio SUV (JK02AB 4024) approaching from the Gharota side. However, the driver accelerated, leading to a brief pursuit. The driver ultimately abandoned the vehicle and escaped under the cover of darkness.

Upon inspection, authorities discovered the SUV was loaded with an estimated 15 to 20 quintals of Khair wood, believed to be intended for illegal commercial sale. Both the seized vehicle and the timber have been transferred to the Forest Department for further legal action. Efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend the driver.
