two terrorists, including a top LeT commander and sniper identified as Quari, were eliminated in an encounter with security forces in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The encounter took place in the Bajimaal area of Dharamsala, resulting in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 10 magazines, ammunition, and other materials.
While the security forces suffered five casualties, the elimination of Quari is considered a major blow to the revival of terrorism in the region. Quari is believed to have orchestrated several attacks, including the Dangri incident, where six innocent civilians lost their lives, and the Kandi attacks in Rajouri’s Poonch areas.
Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, confirmed the involvement of retired Pakistani soldiers among the terrorists who have crossed over into India. He commended the bravery of the soldiers who engaged the well-trained and equipped terrorists, emphasizing the significance of the operation in disrupting the terror ecosystem and sending a strong message to Pakistan.
With an estimated 20-25 terrorists still operating in the area, Lt Gen Dwivedi expressed confidence in bringing the situation under control within a year, with the support of local communities. The elimination of Quari and his associate marks a crucial step in curbing terrorist activities in Rajouri and neighboring regions.
