The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, experienced its coldest night of the season on Friday night. The temperature plunged to a bone-chilling minus 4.6 degrees Celsius, significantly lower than the previous night’s minus 2.4 degrees Celsius. This marks the lowest temperature recorded in Srinagar so far this winter.
Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination and base camp for the Amarnath Yatra, was the coldest place in the Kashmir Valley. The minimum temperature in Pahalgam dipped to minus 5 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg, another popular tourist spot, also experienced a chilly night with a minimum temperature of minus 4.2 degrees Celsius.
Other parts of the valley also recorded below-freezing temperatures. Qazigund registered a low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, Kokernag town minus 2.3 degrees Celsius, and Kupwara minus 3 degrees Celsius.
The weather in the region is expected to remain generally cloudy but dry until December 11th. However, the meteorological office has predicted a further dip in the night temperature by a few degrees. Additionally, there is a possibility of light rain or snowfall at isolated places in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir from December 12th to 15th.
