Omar Abdullah, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and vice president of National Conference (NC), expressed disappointment but not discouragement after Supreme Court upheld the Centre’s decision to abrogate Article 370. He declared, “The struggle will continue,” emphasizing their long-term commitment to the cause. He acknowledged the BJP’s persistent efforts over decades and pointed out their own preparedness for a protracted battle. The Supreme Court’s verdict on August 5, 2019 decision to abrogate Article 370 was upheld, with the court also mandating the conduct of Assembly elections in the Union Territory by September 30, 2024, and the earliest possible restoration of statehood.
