Country Sees 4,423 Active Covid-19 Cases

India witnessed a concerning rise in Covid cases on Thursday, with 760 new infections reported – a significant jump from the double-digit figures seen through December 5th. The health ministry attributed this increase to the emergence of a new variant and colder weather conditions.

While this number pales in comparison to the daily lakhs recorded during the pandemic’s peak, it raises concerns about a potential resurgence. Two new fatalities, one each from Kerala and Karnataka, were also reported within 24 hours.

Despite the recent uptick, India’s overall situation remains encouraging. Active cases stand at 4,423, and over 4.4 crore people have recovered from the disease, boasting a national recovery rate of 98.81%. The vaccination campaign has also been robust, with over 220.67 crore doses administered across the country.
