A night curfew has been implemented along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, aimed at enhancing Border Security Force (BSF) control and thwarting illegal activities in the sensitive area. The move, effective immediately, comes in response to concerns about cross-border infiltration and weapon smuggling during the current foggy weather.
District Magistrate Abhishek Sharma issued the order on Sunday, invoking Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The curfew restricts civilian movement within a one-kilometer strip along the IB from 9 pm to 6 am.
This decision follows a meeting with BSF officials who advocated for a daily night curfew to improve their operational effectiveness. The district administration deems it crucial to limit border zone movement for better BSF domination and foil potential threats to Indian security.
Exceptions exist for essential movement, but individuals must carry valid identification and present it to BSF or police personnel. Strict legal action awaits violators.
