The impact of the Jammu bandh today to protest against Sarore toll plaza and pre-paid smart meters installation in the city was mixed today. The call for Jammu bandh given by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry was supported by various political parties, organizations and common people, but transporters kept themselves out of the scope of this bandh. While markets remained completely closed in Jammu and other districts of the division, public transport continued to run smoothly. In view of the bandh, police and central paramilitary forces were also deployed at various places as a precautionary measure. If we talk about Kathua, then Kathua city remained completely closed, but the traders of the district’s Hiranagar sub-division did not support the bandh and the markets remained open there as usual.
In short, the bandh was successful in shutting down markets in Jammu and other districts of the division, but public transport continued to run smoothly. Transporters did not support the bandh, and traders in Hiranagar sub-division of Kathua did not either.
