The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a revenue official in Khag area of Budgam district on Thursday for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2000.
The accused, Fayaz Ahmad Shora, is a senior assistant and incharge of the Tehsil Office Khag. He was caught red-handed by a trap team constituted by the ACB while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant.
The complainant had approached the ACB with a complaint that Shora was delaying the hearings of his case related to a property dispute with his uncles. The complainant alleged that Shora had demanded Rs 2000 to list his case in the court of the Tehsildar.
The ACB registered a case against Shora and conducted an investigation. The trap team caught Shora red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant. The money was recovered from him on the spot.
Shora has been arrested and further investigation into the case is underway.
This is the latest in a series of cases of corruption involving revenue officials in Kashmir. In recent months, the ACB has arrested several revenue officials for demanding and accepting bribes. These arrests have sent a strong message that the government is committed to fighting corruption.
