Chief Minister Omar Abdullah dismissed the opposition’s adjournment motion regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly as “misplaced.” He explained to reporters that the Speaker had clarified the matter at the session’s conclusion. Abdullah argued that the motion was inappropriate because it challenged local government actions; a differently worded resolution might have yielded a different result. He also noted that the matter is now before the Supreme Court, and they await the court’s decision.
Regarding the restoration of statehood, Abdullah expressed optimism, stating that six months post-election marked a suitable time for its reinstatement. He mentioned a separate meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir, and conveyed his hope for a swift restoration of statehood.
