On Wednesday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is set to convene a meeting with his ministers and top officials in the ski resort of Gulmarg. The meeting, scheduled for 12 noon, was announced by the General Administration Department and aims to boost tourism in the region after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
Key attendees are expected to include senior civil administration officials, as well as the Inspector General of Police, Kashmir; Deputy Inspector General, North Kashmir; and Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla.
This meeting follows a similar one chaired by Abdullah on Tuesday in Pahalgam, south Kashmir. Officials indicate that holding these high-level meetings outside the secure Civil Secretariat is a deliberate strategy to instill confidence, allay fears, and demonstrate a renewed sense of security and trust.
The government believes these efforts will contribute to the revival of Kashmir’s tourism industry, which suffered a significant blow after the April 22 terror attack that resulted in 26 fatalities, predominantly tourists. In addition to these meetings, the Jammu and Kashmir government is also hosting a delegation of tour and travel operators from across the country as part of its broader initiative to attract tourists back to the union territory.
