Ahmedabad, India – More than two weeks after the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, officials on Saturday confirmed the identification of the last victim through DNA testing, bringing the final death toll to 260. The mortal remains of the victim have been handed over to their family.
The London-bound Air India flight, which crashed into a hostel complex in the Meghaninagar area shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, initially had a fatality count pegged at 270 by medical authorities. However, the final count now stands at 260.
The crash tragically claimed the lives of 241 individuals on board (including passengers and crew) and 19 people on the ground. Miraculously, one passenger, 40-year-old British national Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, survived the incident.
Dr. Rakesh Joshi, Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, stated, “The DNA matching of the last body of the Air India plane crash victim has been done. The victim’s mortal remains have been handed over to relatives.” He added that three injured patients from the crash are still receiving treatment at the civil hospital. With this final identification, the bodies of all 260 victims have now been returned to their families.
