Anantnag Police Solve Abduction and Murder Case, Arrest Suspect

Anantnag Police have successfully resolved the case of a missing girl from Kokernag, resulting in the arrest of the accused and the recovery of the victim’s body.

On March 16, 2025, Police Station Kokernag received a missing person report concerning a young girl (name withheld). An immediate investigation was launched.

Technical evidence gathered during the investigation indicated the girl had been abducted by Altaf Mir, 31, son of Nissar Ahmad Mir, a resident of Lawaypora, Srinagar.

Initially, FIR No. 15/2025 was registered under sections 87 and 49 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). As the investigation advanced, Altaf Mir was apprehended and interrogated. During questioning, he confessed to the crime. Based on his confession, the victim’s body was recovered from his residence in Lawaypora, Srinagar.

Following the recovery of the body and the confession, sections 64 and 103 of the BNS were added to the FIR to accurately reflect the nature of the offense.

The victim’s body has been submitted for a postmortem and forensic examination to gather further evidence. Comprehensive legal proceedings are now underway.
