Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed strong confidence in the BJP’s long-term political dominance, predicting the party would remain in power at the Centre for at least 30 years, citing its consistent performance and public trust. He emphasized that the BJP’s victories are rooted in hard work and a commitment to national service.
Regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Shah reiterated the BJP’s commitment to its implementation, stating that BJP-ruled states would introduce it progressively. He highlighted that Uttarakhand had already enacted the law and that other states, like Gujarat, were actively working towards implementation. He connected this initiative to the BJP’s long-standing agenda and the Constituent Assembly’s original intent.
On the alleged cash discovery at Justice Yashwant Varma’s residence, Shah noted that the Chief Justice of India had initiated an inquiry and that the government was cooperating. He also clarified the legal constraints regarding FIR registration in such cases, aligning with the Supreme Court’s decision.
Addressing concerns about RSS influence, Shah denied any interference from the organization, emphasizing the RSS’s role in fostering patriotism.
Shah discussed the government’s efforts to address internal security challenges, including Naxal violence, terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, and insurgency in the Northeast, highlighting the surrender of 16,000 youths in these regions.
Finally, regarding the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, Shah refrained from commenting due to the matter being subjudice, affirming the government’s intention to abide by the Supreme Court’s ruling and confirming that an affidavit would be filed.
