Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently led a meeting to review the master plans for Srinagar and Jammu, along with the Unified Building Bye-Laws (UBBL) for Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting focused on the Srinagar Master Plan-2035, the Jammu Master Plan-2032, and the Unified Building Bye-Laws-2021. Commissioner Secretary of the Housing & Urban Development Department, Mandeep Kaur, presented a comprehensive overview of the master plans, detailing their strategic vision, projected urban growth, infrastructure needs, and policy interventions. The UBBLs were also discussed, with a specific focus on land use for residential, industrial, and public spaces.
Chief Minister Abdullah stressed that these master plans must be realistic and implementable, not just theoretical documents. He directed officials to incorporate the views of all stakeholders, ensuring the plans are environmentally sustainable and capable of addressing future urban challenges while preserving the cultural and ecological identity of both cities.
He emphasized that these plans are crucial for shaping the future growth of the two major cities for decades. He instructed all departments to include on-ground assessments, public feedback, and inter-departmental coordination to ensure successful implementation.
