Chief Minister Omar Abdullah prioritizes robust inter-departmental coordination for summer preparedness in Jammu Division, emphasizing uninterrupted essential services and swift emergency response.
Abdullah stressed the importance of minimizing public inconvenience during heatwaves, stating, “Coordination between all line departments is vital to ensure uninterrupted essential services to citizens during summer months.” He emphasized the need for rapid response times to emergencies like water shortages and power outages, asserting, “Response time to any kind of exigency should be minimised.”
Directly engaging with district Deputy Commissioners, he reviewed local preparedness and urged proactive measures to address weather-related challenges. He highlighted the necessity of ensuring personnel and machinery are ready for immediate deployment.
The Divisional Commissioner Jammu presented a detailed overview of summer preparations, including:
- Forest Fire Management: Prioritizing high-risk districts with control rooms and awareness campaigns.
- Water Supply: Vulnerability mapping, infrastructure maintenance, and tanker deployment.
- Power Infrastructure: Transformer upgrades, tree pruning, and emergency team activation.
- Healthcare: Stocking essential supplies, operationalizing heat stroke rooms, and daily illness reporting.
- Education: Revised school timings from May 1 and enforcement of the school bag policy.
- Irrigation and Flood Control: Canal desilting and activated flood control rooms.
- Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC): Monsoon rescue units, drainage equipment upgrades, and heatwave relief measures.
- Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY): Landslide and flood-prone site mapping and machinery deployment.
Abdullah directed departments to activate control rooms, maintain buffer stocks of essential supplies, and deploy quick response teams to vulnerable areas. He specifically instructed the ACS Jal Shakti to install GPS trackers on water tankers for accountability. He also called for timely maintenance of key roads, including the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and Mughal Road.
