Jammu, June 23, 2025 – With the monsoon season approaching, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, today chaired a meeting with senior officers to assess and enhance flood preparedness and mitigation efforts across the district.
The meeting saw the participation of key officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police Joginder Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrates, and representatives from the Flood Control, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Public Works Department (PWD), Health, and Police departments, among others.
Deputy Commissioner Vaishya conducted a thorough review of the district’s flood protection infrastructure, the availability of essential machinery, and the readiness of disaster response teams. He issued directives for all ongoing flood management projects to be completed promptly and for all necessary equipment to be maintained in a state of readiness.
Emphasizing the critical role of inter-departmental coordination, the DC urged officers to pinpoint vulnerable low-lying and flood-prone areas. He stressed the importance of taking all necessary precautions to protect lives and property. The Health Department was specifically instructed to ensure medical teams and ambulances are on standby, along with an adequate supply of essential medicines.
The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the necessity of consistent monitoring of water levels in rivers and nallahs. He called for the establishment of control rooms at both the district and tehsil levels to facilitate swift responses to any emergency. Furthermore, officials were directed to launch awareness campaigns to educate the public on flood safety measures.
