“A road accident near the Nowyug Tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway resulted in two fatalities, officials reported Wednesday. The incident occurred around 8:40 PM Tuesday when a speeding Hector vehicle, traveling from Jammu to Srinagar, crashed into a divider and police barrier.
Five individuals, including a Special Police Officer (SPO), sustained injuries in the collision. They were initially treated at Emergency Hospital Qazigund and subsequently transferred to Government Medical College Anantnag.
Zubair Ahmad Wani of Heerpora, Shopian, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Mushtaq Ahmad Dalal, also from Shopian, succumbed to his injuries overnight.
Police have registered a case under sections 281, 125(a), and 324(4) BNS at Police Station Qazigund, Kulgam, and have commenced an investigation.
This incident follows an accident six days prior, where an SRTC bus overturned inside the Navyug Tunnel, injuring 17 people, including the driver.”
