Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat recently chaired a high-level meeting in Jammu to review the security and administrative preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. The meeting included officers from the police, Army, central paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, and civil administration.
Key Directives and Preparations
During the meeting, DGP Prabhat emphasized the critical need for implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and taking proactive measures to mitigate risks, ensuring the safety and security of all pilgrims. He issued several directives:
- Enhanced Surveillance and Threat Detection: Officers were instructed to boost surveillance and threat detection capabilities by utilizing advanced technologies and real-time monitoring.
- Dismantling Terror Ecosystem: Field officers were directed to intensify efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem, ensuring robust security for the Yatra.
- Anti-Sabotage Teams: The DGP called for the deployment of anti-sabotage teams along the Yatra routes to bolster security and mitigate potential risks.
Briefings and Initiatives
Officers briefed DGP Prabhat on proposed security arrangements, highlighting the importance of effective coordination among various forces.
- Jammu District Preparations: Jammu Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Joginder Singh provided a detailed presentation on security deployments and pilgrim facilitation within Jammu district. This included arrangements at lodgement, registration, and token centers. He also highlighted innovative initiatives, such as anti-drone measures, implemented to strengthen the security grid and ensure a safe and smooth Yatra.
- Administrative Measures: Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar detailed the administrative measures taken for the smooth conduct of the Yatra, particularly arrangements for boarding and lodging. He confirmed that 106 lodgement centers have been set up for pilgrims across the Jammu region.
Amarnath Yatra Details
The 38-day-long Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 3. Pilgrims will travel to the 3,880-meter-high holy cave shrine via two routes: the traditional 48-kilometer Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter, steeper 14-kilometer Baltal route in Ganderbal district. The first batch of pilgrims will depart for Kashmir from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu a day before the Yatra officially commences.
