Following a recent wind storm, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar convened a meeting today to evaluate the resulting damages and review the progress of restoration efforts.
The meeting included key officials such as the Managing Director of JPDCL, the Commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, Deputy Commissioners from across the Jammu Division, Chief Engineers from the Power Development Department (PDD) and Jal Shakti Department, as well as various Executive Engineers and other relevant officers. These officials provided sector-specific updates on the impact of the wind storm and the damage sustained by their respective infrastructure.
Divisional Commissioner Kumar assessed the district-wise damage to power, water, and road infrastructure, requesting detailed information from each Deputy Commissioner. The MD of JPDCL and the Commissioner of JMC also briefed the Divisional Commissioner on the damage to power infrastructure and public amenities, along with the ongoing restoration work.
The meeting participants reported significant progress in restoring power infrastructure and water supply schemes, as well as clearing roads throughout the division. It was conveyed that the majority of power and water supply restoration work had been completed, with the remaining tasks expected to be finished by this evening and tomorrow. The Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) reported that roads had been cleared of fallen trees and landslides caused by the storm.
The Divisional Commissioner instructed the relevant officials to ensure 100% power supply is restored to domestic areas by this evening and to agricultural lands by tomorrow, urging the power department’s ground staff to work with utmost urgency.
Furthermore, the Divisional Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioners to closely supervise the restoration work and submit a comprehensive report detailing the damages and restoration progress by 7 pm today.
Commissioner Kumar also instructed the concerned officials to expedite the repair of damages to public infrastructure. Additionally, they were tasked with assessing the losses incurred to public property and livestock to facilitate the provision of relief from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to affected individuals.
Finally, the Divisional Commissioner called for the immediate cleaning and desilting of drainage networks within Jammu City.
