Following incessant rains, gusty winds, and hailstorm, Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, immediately directed Deputy Commissioners and concerned officers to respond to distress calls, monitor the evolving situation, and activate control rooms for effective assessment and response.
During an emergency meeting convened today, the Div Com addressed reported crop damage in Shopian due to hailstorm and minor structural damage elsewhere. He instructed Deputy Commissioners to promptly provide relief to affected individuals according to established guidelines.
The Irrigation & Flood Control Department reported that while water levels in Jhelum’s tributaries were being monitored, there was no immediate flood threat. To tackle urban waterlogging, the SMC was directed to deploy dewatering pumps as needed.
Reviewing essential services, the Div Com instructed KPDCL to ensure swift restoration of damaged power lines and transformers. He also confirmed the availability of essential supplies like food grains, LPG, and oil.
For public safety, Traffic Police were directed to issue advisories regarding hazardous roads, including Gurez, Mughal Road, Sinthan Top, and Razdan Top, to prevent travelers from being stranded. The Health Department was instructed to maintain uninterrupted medical services in hospitals and healthcare facilities.
The Director of IMD informed the meeting of anticipated gradual improvement in weather conditions from late tonight into tomorrow afternoon.
The emergency meeting included the Commissioner SMC, Deputy Commissioners, SSPs, Directors of IMD, Health, Tourism, FCS&CA, VC LCMA, ULB, and officers from various departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, School Education, Traffic, Transport, KPDCL, I&FC, PHE, and PWD.
