During a recent address to farmers in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha clarified the scope of his administrative authority, explaining that most departments, including power, water, agriculture, and roads, fall under the government’s jurisdiction, with the police department being the sole exception under his direct purview.
Sinha’s remarks came in response to various demands from the farming community, notably the plea to include horticulture under the Crop Insurance Scheme to protect their produce from unpredictable weather and crop losses.
With a touch of humor, the LG stated, “You said, ‘LG Sahab give us something.’ The only thing I can give you is the police personnel.” He further emphasized, “Rest – roads, water, power, agriculture, are with the government. I will have no objection if the government concedes to your demands,” signaling his support for the farmers’ concerns.
Sinha’s candid explanation underscored the administrative distinction between the Lieutenant Governor’s role and the broader governmental structure within the Union Territory. Despite these limitations, he demonstrated a clear willingness to advocate for the legitimate demands of the people.
