Jammu and Kashmir’s Traffic Police have scored double victories in their fight against fake registration plates. In a swift operation on January 9th, officers led by SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir RP Singh seized a Maruti Alto K10 with a forged plate (JK02CF 2710) in Kulgam district. Acting on reliable intel, the vehicle was apprehended under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Discrepancies in the engine and chassis numbers, as well as the High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP), raised red flags for the vigilant officers. Further investigation revealed inconsistencies between the original and duplicate Registration Certificates (RC).
Promptly sharing this information with the district police, the Traffic Police facilitated the initiation of a criminal case against Mohd Iqbal Bhat, the vehicle’s owner, under FIR No. 10/2024, Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 IPC, dated January 10th, 2024, at PS Shopian.
Similarly, another vehicle with a fake plate was identified in Budgam district. Legal proceedings under the Motor Vehicle/Criminal Act are underway.
