Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted Jainism’s significant contribution to India’s identity, emphasizing its relevance to global challenges like terrorism, war, and environmental degradation, during an event commemorating ‘Navkar Mahamantra Divas.’ He affirmed his government’s dedication to preserving Jain heritage, noting its presence within the Parliament building.
Modi underscored the importance of anekantavada, a Jain doctrine advocating for diverse perspectives, in fostering global understanding. He stressed Jainism’s emphasis on non-violence and the interconnectedness of life as crucial lessons for promoting peace, harmony, and environmental sustainability.
He acknowledged Jain literature as a pillar of India’s spiritual wealth and outlined government initiatives to protect it, including the digitization of ancient texts and the recognition of Pali and Prakrit as classical languages.
Modi concluded by urging attendees to adopt nine pledges: conserving water, planting trees, promoting cleanliness, supporting local products, domestic travel, embracing natural farming, adopting healthy lifestyles (including millets and reduced oil consumption), aiding the underprivileged, and incorporating sports and yoga. He also called for national unity, encouraging acceptance of those who chant “Bharat mata ki jai.”
