The Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a couple on Monday for impersonating Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers and duping people on the pretext of providing jobs.
The couple, Manmohan Ganjoo and Ayoush Koul Ganjoo, were arrested from their home in Baghat, Srinagar. Ganjoo is a suspended police personnel.
The police said that the couple had duped many people of lakhs of rupees by promising them jobs, transfers, and other favors. They had also seized laptops, mobiles, and other incriminating materials from the couple’s house.
An FIR has been registered against the couple under sections 419, 420, 468, 471, 170, and 467 of the Indian Penal Code.
The police have appealed to the public to not fall prey to such fraudsters and to report any such incidents to the authorities.
