Jammu and Kashmir LG Sinha Denies House Arrests or Arrests Ahead of SC Verdict on Article 370, Calls Claims “Baseless”

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha denied reports that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti was placed under house arrest on Monday, December 11th, 2023, ahead of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the abrogation of Article 370.

Sinha stated that the claim was “totally baseless” and no one was subjected to house arrest or arrest across the Union Territory. He attributed the rumor to an attempt to spread misinformation.

“I am saying this with full responsibility,” Sinha said, “no one was put under house arrest or arrest for political reasons anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir.”

The PDP had earlier tweeted that Mufti was put under “illegal house arrest” with police sealing her residence.

The Supreme Court is slated to pronounce its verdict on a batch of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
