Jammu Crime Branch chargesheets mother-daughter duo for cheating man of Rs 12 lakh

On October 4, 2023, the Economic Offences Wing – Crime Branch Jammu charge-sheeted a mother-daughter duo for duping an individual of Rs 12 lakh on the promise of sending his daughter to Canada for higher education.

The duo, Balwant Kour and her daughter Simran Mann, were booked under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC by Police Station Crime Branch Jammu.

The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by Raj Kumar Nischal, whose daughter Aditi Nischal had come in contact with Simran Mann, an IELTS teacher at the institute where Aditi worked as a graphic designer.

Simran Mann promised to send Aditi to Canada for higher studies in lieu of Rs 12 lakh. After Raj Kumar transferred the money to Simran’s account through RTGS, she started dodging Aditi on one pretext or the other and later cheated her of her father’s hard-earned money.

The Crime Branch initiated a preliminary verification and found the allegations to be prima facie true. They subsequently registered a case for in-depth investigation.

During the investigation, the Crime Branch seized relevant records, recorded statements of witnesses, and gathered scientific, circumstantial, and other material evidence to substantiate the commission of crime by the mother-daughter duo.

While Balwant Kour is on bail after she was arrested by Crime Branch Jammu, her daughter is still at large.
