A government school teacher, Jameel Anjum, was remanded to 15 days of judicial custody on Saturday after his arrest last week for allegedly duping job seekers. Anjum, a resident of Ustad Mohalla, was arrested on May 23.
His arrest followed a complaint from Rashid Manhas of Gujjar Nagar, who claims Anjum defrauded him of ₹10 lakh in cash and ₹5 lakh in gold ornaments. Manhas alleges Anjum promised government jobs for him and his sister, providing fake appointment orders. Anjum reportedly told Manhas that specific government positions were reserved for educated middle-class candidates with no family members in government service.
Benam Tosh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Jammu, formed a special investigation team to conduct a thorough investigation into the complaint.
Officials stated that Anjum is a habitual fraudster and is currently under suspension due to his continuous involvement in fraudulent activities. Ten First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered against him by the Crime Branch and district Police Jammu, with chargesheets filed in four of those cases.
