Sinha emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, infrastructure development, and economic diversification. He cited improvements in the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), infrastructure advancements, and socio-economic indices, while acknowledging challenges such as regional disparities and unemployment. Key initiatives mentioned included:
- Infrastructure: Progress on major connectivity projects, including the Sonamarg Tunnel (Z-Morh), the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, and the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL).
- Air Connectivity: Expansion of Jammu Airport and the introduction of evening flights.
- Water Resources: Plans to harness the full potential of the region’s water resources.
- Tourism: Efforts to enhance visitor experience and promote sustainable tourism, including preparations for the annual Amarnath Yatra.
- Industrial Development: Progress under the central sector scheme, with new industrial units registered and infrastructure improvements in industrial estates.
- Handicrafts: Initiatives to promote “Brand J&K,” facilitate GI tagging, and provide skill training to artisans.
- Education: Investments in higher education, with operational IIT and IIM campuses and recognition for university faculty.
Security Action:
In a separate development, authorities seized property belonging to an individual involved in terrorism and subversive activities in Shopian. The seizure was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and police, and documented in revenue records. Legal notices were issued to prevent the sale or transfer of the property. Shopian Police, in collaboration with other agencies, reaffirmed their commitment to taking action against threats to national security.
