- New Hydropower Policy:
- To unlock the region’s 20,000 MW hydropower potential, attracting private investment and accelerating development.
- Significant projects like Pakal Dul, Kiru, Kwar, and Ratle are expected to add over 3,000 MW by 2027.
- Further projects like Kirthai-I, Dulhasti-II, Bursar, Sawalkote, Uri-I Stage-II, Ujh, and Kirthai-II will add 4,500 MW within a decade.
- Power Sector Reforms:
- A substantial budget increase for the power sector, from Rs 762.80 crore in 2024-25 to approximately Rs 2,021.37 crore in 2025-26.
- Focus on achieving 24/7 reliable and affordable electricity for all households by 2027-28.
- Implementation of smart metering, online billing, and aerial bunched cables to reduce under-recovery and improve efficiency.
- The goal is to reduce Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses from 41% to 25% by 2025-26.
- Addressing the gap between the cost of power supply and revenue collection through 100% smart metering and modernized distribution networks.
- The center has sanctioned 5,620 crore rupees under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, and J&K has submitted plans for 12,922 crore rupees worth of improvements.
- Financial Stability:
- Addressing the issue of high-cost debt incurred due to power purchase liabilities.
- Strategies include reducing debt, optimizing liabilities, and calibrating repayment schedules.
- Renewable Energy:
- Promotion of rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
- Solarization of 22,494 government buildings, targeting completion by December.
- Workforce Welfare:
- Construction of dedicated linemen huts and essential facilities.
- Prioritization of capacity building and enhanced insurance coverage.
- Establishment of a Power Training Institute.
- Creation of the Chief Ministers award to recognize and reward those who reduce AT&C losses.
