Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing a surge in tourism, with over a million visitors including a record number of foreign tourists arriving by mid-May. To accommodate this influx and cater to high-end travelers, the J&K administration is setting up committees in each district to identify land for new 5-star hotels.
These committees will be led by the deputy commissioners and include officials from tourism, forestry, urban planning, and industry. Their task is to find suitable land, including government property, private land, and even forest land with development potential, considering factors like accessibility and infrastructure. Proposals will be submitted through designated channels for approval.
The tourism department acknowledges the need for more luxury accommodations. They aim to host over 25 million tourists this year and believe 5-star hotels across the region will enhance the visitor experience, particularly for foreign guests and discerning domestic travelers. Last year’s successful G-20 summit is credited with attracting more international tourists, and the positive trend is expected to continue.
