In a coordinated effort in the DK Pora area of Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army’s 34 Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group (SOG) Shopian, and the CRPF 178 Battalion successfully apprehended two individuals associated with terrorist activities. During the operation, security forces recovered two pistols, four grenades, 43 live rounds, and various incriminating materials from the possession of the apprehended individuals.
Shopian Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR), and an ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full extent of their connections and activities. This operation represents a notable advancement in the ongoing efforts to investigate and counter unlawful and subversive activities in the region. It underscores the commitment of the Shopian Police to neutralizing threats to national security and upholding peace and order.
This action follows a recent operation on May 13 in the Shukroo forest area of Keller, located in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, where police sources confirmed the neutralization of three terrorists linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). According to a senior police official, a large-scale cordon-and-search operation was initiated in the Kellar forests based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists.
As security forces conducted a thorough search in the Shukroo forest area, terrorists concealed in the region initiated gunfire on the joint team of police and army personnel, leading to an intense exchange. In the ensuing firefight, three terrorists associated with LeT were neutralized. Official confirmation of the identities of the deceased militants is still pending.
Prior to this, in April, following the attack in Pahalgam, Srinagar Police conducted extensive searches across multiple locations in the city. These searches targeted the residences of Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and individuals associated with proscribed terrorist organizations as part of ongoing investigations into cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
This recent operation also follows India’s significant success in Operation Sindoor, where precise strikes reportedly resulted in the elimination of nearly 100 terror operatives at key bases within Pakistan, including Bhawalpur, the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Muridke, a significant training facility for Lashkar-e-Taiba.
