On Saturday, the weather in Jammu and Kashmir improved after snowfall in the higher reaches and widespread rains in the plains. The temperature dropped and several roads were closed.
The meteorological department in Srinagar has forecast dry weather for the next 24 hours.
The sky was cloudy and cold in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley.
In the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley, there was snowfall, while the plains received widespread rains on Friday, bringing down the temperature.
Due to the snowfall, several roads were closed to traffic, including Razdan Pass, Zojila Pass, Kishtwar-Anantnag Road, Mughal, Phirkiyan Gali, Machil, Sadna Top, and Srinagar-Sonamarg Road.
The J&K Traffic Police said that traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway and the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road connecting Ladakh had been restored and was flowing normally.
However, the historic Mughal road connecting Shopian district in south Kashmir with the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu division remained closed due to the accumulation of snowfall.
Snow clearance operations are in progress on other far-flung routes.
The minimum temperature recorded in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday was 4.2 degrees Celsius. It also received 9.2mm of rainfall till 0830 hours today. Qazigund received 31.4mm rainfall, Pahalgam 7.2mm rainfall, Kupwara 29.8mm rainfall, Kokernag 5.8mm rainfall and Gulmarg 22.2mm rainfall.
