A man identified as Abdul Gani has been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, for alleged bovine smuggling. Police reported on Wednesday that Gani was apprehended in the Maggar Khad area of Lakhanpur and subsequently lodged in Central Kot Bhalwal Jail.
According to a police spokesperson, Gani has been involved in illegal activities since 2008, with 10 FIRs registered against him at three different police stations in Kathua under various sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act. A dossier was prepared by the police and sent to the Kathua district magistrate, who then issued a detention warrant under the PSA to curb his ongoing illicit operations.
In a separate incident on Wednesday, two alleged drug peddlers, Sham (of Kotli Pain) and Simraan Khan (of Jakhani), were arrested in the Chak Magiote area of Rehambal, Udhampur district. Police seized 5.7 grams of heroin from them. A case has been registered against both individuals under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Police also stated that Sham was wanted in connection with multiple previous cases involving drug peddling and theft.
