Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district are on the third day of a major search operation to track down terrorists hiding in a forested area. The operation, which began on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in the Kanzal Mandu area of the Kuchal-Chatroo belt, involves the Army, CRPF, and police.
The encounter initially broke out around 7:45 PM on Wednesday during a cordon and search operation launched after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of terrorists. Officials believe two to three terrorists are in the area.
To aid in the extensive search, which has been expanded into the Chatroo forest region, helicopters, drones, and sniffer dogs are being utilized. The cordon has also been reinforced with additional troops.
This operation marks the second encounter in the Jammu region within a week. Previously, on June 26, 2025, a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist was killed in an encounter in the Basantgarh belt of Udhampur district, though three of his associates managed to escape.
