Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir – Ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha convened a meeting with a diverse group of stakeholders on Saturday to finalize arrangements for the pilgrimage. The interaction, held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), saw the participation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, civil society members, religious leaders, DDC chairpersons, representatives from business and trade associations, and MLAs.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha highlighted the administration’s extensive preparations, including security measures, to ensure the comfort and safety of the visiting pilgrims. He acknowledged the challenging weather and terrain, stating, “Despite challenging weather conditions and tough terrain, efforts have been made to ensure better facilities for the pilgrims. Many of you are aware of this. Significant improvements have taken place. I also know that people from Jammu and Kashmir, especially those involved in this yatra, have served with dedication and will continue to do so.”
Following the meeting, Sinha informed reporters that the stakeholders pledged their full support for a successful yatra. He revealed that he had previously met with senior political leaders at the Raj Bhavan, seeking their cooperation for both the Amarnath Yatra and Muharram. “They assured me of support for both the yatra as well as Muharram,” Sinha stated.
He further elaborated on the collaborative approach, noting, “The members of the civil society, religious leaders, DDC chairpersons, office bearers of business and trade associations, and MLAs, were here for consultations today. Senior officers were also present. We have been doing this endeavour for the last four years.”
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the stakeholders’ sentiment that the Amarnath Yatra is a collective responsibility, belonging more to the people than solely to the administration and shrine board. He concluded with optimism, expressing his hope for a successful pilgrimage “with the blessings of Baba Amarnath.”
