Jammu and Kashmir has seen more positive transformation in the past 3 years than in the previous 75 years, according to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
Sinha made the remarks at the launch of the inaugural edition of the JAKFAS journal at the Convention Centre in Srinagar. He said that corruption had been rooted out to empower the common man in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The system that functioned on the basis of corruption has been demolished. Now, the common man feels empowered with transparency in the system. Those who looted Jammu and Kashmir have been held accountable,” he said.
Sinha also said that elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held at the appropriate time. “The Union Home Minister has said in Parliament that elections will be held in J&K, and the Election Commission of India will decide when that will happen. We are confident that 80% of the people will vote and support the current system,” he said.
The LG said that Jammu and Kashmir has been receiving more funds than the rest of the state, and that people have now realized where that money was going.
“We have ensured that the benefits of development reach every corner of the state. We have also taken steps to improve the security situation, and the number of terrorist incidents has declined significantly,” he said.
Sinha’s remarks come amid a renewed focus on the development of Jammu and Kashmir. The government has announced a number of initiatives in recent months, including a plan to invest $30 billion in the region over the next five years.
The government’s efforts to transform Jammu and Kashmir have been met with mixed reactions. Some people have welcomed the changes, while others have expressed concerns about the erosion of the region’s autonomy.
Only time will tell whether the government’s initiatives will be successful in bringing about a lasting transformation in Jammu and Kashmir.
