On Independence Day, people in the Sadiwara village of Verinag in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, came together to celebrate their love for their country. They carried a massive 400-foot flag in a rally organized under the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign.
The rally was led by Panchayat Sadiwara Sarpanch Farooq Ahmad Ganie, who said that the event was a “collective ideology” of the village. He also said that the rally was a tribute to the sacrifices of the soldiers who have fought for the country.
“I think there cannot be a bigger tribute than this for the jawans because of whom we are living freely,” Ganie said. “We should give the ‘title of proud mother’ to those mothers whose children sacrificed their lives for the security of the nation.”
The sarpanch said that he was proud that people from all walks of life had come together to hold the tricolour. He said that this was a reply to those who had said that there would be no one to hold the national flag in Kashmir.
“India lives in the hearts of everyone – old and young, and it will continue to be so,” he said. “God willing, the country’s flag will keep flying always high.”
The rally was a powerful display of patriotism and unity in Kashmir. It showed that the people of the valley are proud of their country and their flag, and that they will never give up on their dream of a peaceful and prosperous future.
