Following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 fatalities, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh convened a high-level security meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting, lasting approximately two and a half hours, included key figures such as National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal AK Singh. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai also participated.
Discussions centered on comprehensively assessing the post-attack security landscape. Sources indicated that Minister Singh instructed the armed forces to bolster their combat readiness and intensify counter-terrorism operations. Army Chief Gen Dwivedi provided a detailed briefing on the current security situation and troop deployments in the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who strongly condemned the “heinous act,” affirmed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. In response to the attack, multiple security meetings have been conducted.
Prime Minister Modi returned to New Delhi early Wednesday, cutting short his Saudi Arabia trip. Home Minister Amit Shah traveled to Srinagar on Tuesday evening to oversee security measures. Upon his return to Delhi, Prime Minister Modi met with NSA Doval, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
