Following the announcement of an understanding between India and Pakistan to cease military actions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level meeting Saturday evening. Key government officials present included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
The meeting was also attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of all three military services.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan have agreed to halt all firing and military activity across land, air, and sea, effective from 5 pm on Saturday.
This brief announcement from the Foreign Secretary followed shortly after a statement by US President Donald Trump, who indicated that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire after discussions facilitated by the United States.
According to Misri, the DGMO of Pakistan initiated contact with the DGMO of India earlier in the afternoon at 3:35 pm.
