Following “Operation Sindoor,” a retaliatory strike against terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a Union Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Subsequently, he is scheduled to chair a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to assess the developing situation.
Sources indicate that the Cabinet meeting is expected to address and potentially formalize a resolution regarding the overnight military operation. This operation involved Indian armed forces conducting missile strikes on nine terror targets, including significant locations such as the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base in Muridke, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists.
Prime Minister Modi had previously granted the armed forces complete operational autonomy concerning the selection of targets, methodology, and timing of the counter-terrorism measures following the Pahalgam incident.
Prior to the cabinet meetings, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval provided Prime Minister Modi with a comprehensive briefing on the current situation.
