Security forces arrested a “hybrid” terrorist and his associate in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
The two men, Tanveer Ahmad Bhat and Yawer Maqbool Ganai, were apprehended in Pakharpora area of Budgam district by a joint team of police and Army’s 53 Rashtriya Rifles.
Bhat is a resident of Karapora Charar-Sharief, while Ganai is a resident of the same village.
The two men were working with The Resistance Front (TRF), which is believed to be a shadow group of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested duo were operating under the banner of proscribed terror outfit LeT/TRF in Pakherpora area,” a police spokesman said.
Arms and ammunition, including a pistol, a magazine, and nine rounds, were recovered from their possession.
A case has been registered at Police Station Chrar-i-Sharief and further investigation is underway.
The arrest of the two men is a major success for the security forces in their fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. It is a reminder that the forces are determined to root out terrorism from the region.
The term “hybrid” terrorist refers to a terrorist who is not a full-time member of a terrorist organization, but who engages in terrorist activities on an intermittent basis.
