Kupwara Police have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substances, continuing their crackdown on illegal drug activity in the region.
The arrested individual has been identified as Faisal Ahmad Sheikh of Kupwara. He was apprehended by a Police Post Bazar team at a checkpoint in Geerhatchi after he attempted to flee upon seeing the officers. A heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession during the search.
A case has been registered against Sheikh under FIR No. 149/2025 at Police Station Kupwara, and investigations are underway. Preliminary findings indicate that Sheikh was actively involved in supplying and distributing narcotics, specifically targeting youth in Kupwara town and the Hyhama belt, which has contributed to rising drug abuse in the area.
Police urge the public to report any instances of drug peddling or other criminal activities to their nearest police establishment or by dialing 112. Cooperation from the community is crucial in eradicating the drug menace, and authorities reassure residents that strict action will be taken against criminals in accordance with the law.
