Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district arrested an alleged bovine smuggler under the Public Safety Act (PSA) on Saturday.
The smuggler, Mohd Azam of Kothian village in Pouni tehsil, was arrested based on a dossier prepared by the Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police, Amit Gupta. The dossier was submitted to the district magistrate, who formally issued the order for Azam’s detention under the PSA.
Azam is named in five FIRs registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act at different police stations in Rajouri, Reasi, and Jammu over the past three years.
“In view of his continuous involvement in bovine smuggling and other variety of criminal cases and to safeguard the general public, it was necessary to book him under stringent law,” a police spokesman said.
