The Punjab Police arrested five people from Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday in connection with a heroin seizure case. Police also seized a pistol, two magazines, 46 cartridges, and Rs 11.2 lakh cash from the accused.
Deputy Inspector General (Border Range) Narendra Bhargav said the accused were Raveel Kataria, Imtayaz Ahmed, Nafeez, Mukhtiar Ahmad, and Fiaz Ahmed. He claimed that the money, arms, and ammunition seized from them were to be used for terror activities.
The arrests came following the questioning of three people who were arrested with 18 kilograms of heroin from Gurdaspur, Punjab, on July 27. Police, with the help of the army, launched an operation to nab the five accused from the Baramulla area.
The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Arms Act. They are being further interrogated to ascertain the source of the heroin and the intended recipients of the money and arms.
This is a significant success for the Punjab Police in its fight against drug trafficking and terrorism. The arrests of these five people have disrupted a major drug smuggling and terror financing network. It is a clear message to those who are involved in these nefarious activities that they will not be spared by the law.
