Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be on a day-long visit to Jammu on Tuesday to inaugurate 90 infrastructure projects of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). He will also attend the North Tech Symposium being held at IIT Jammu.
The BRO projects include four airstrips and helipads that have been built along the northern and western borders. The most important of these is the 422.9 metre Devak bridge on the Bishnah-Kaulpur-Phulpur Road. The bridge is of strategic importance to defence forces and will boost the socio-economic development of the region.
The other projects include 21 roads, 64 bridges, one tunnel, and two helipads. These projects have been built at a cost of Rs 2,941 crores.
The defence minister will arrive in Jammu in the morning and will fly to Samba to inaugurate the Devak bridge. He will then attend the North Tech Symposium at IIT Jammu. The symposium is being held to discuss ways to use technology for the development of the armed forces and the country.
The defence minister’s visit is a significant boost to the development of infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. The BRO projects will improve the connectivity and mobility of the region, and will also help to boost the economy.
