A senior army officer, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, visited the forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector on Tuesday. This visit came amid concerns about increased infiltration risks due to the lack of snowfall this winter.
The absence of heavy snowfall, which usually blocks mountain passes and hinders infiltration attempts, has prompted the counter-infiltration grid to heighten its vigilance. Lt Gen Ghai emphasized the need for troops to maintain “a high state of operational readiness” in these challenging weather conditions and terrain.
While acknowledging the ongoing challenge of cross-border infiltration, Director General of Police R R Swain assured that the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains under control. He pointed out that the majority of the public remains supportive of the security forces, despite a small number of individuals joining the ranks of terrorists.
