The Supreme Court is asking the Centre to respond to a petition requesting the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. The plea was filed by academician Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and activist Ahmad Malik.
A bench, which included Chief Justice B. R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran, acknowledged the Centre’s submission that “several considerations” are involved in the decision-making process. The court has scheduled the case to be heard in eight weeks.
