The renowned Tulip Garden in Srinagar is set to open its gates to the public on Wednesday, offering visitors a streamlined experience with the introduction of online and QR code-based ticketing systems. Floriculture Director Shakeel-ul-Rehman Rather announced that the garden boasts 1.75 million tulip bulbs and other flowers this season.
To enhance visitor convenience and reduce congestion, online ticket booking is now available, with links provided on international tourism websites. Physical ticket sales will continue alongside the new digital options. QR code ticket purchase points have been established at the Tourist Reception Centre and Srinagar Airport. Additionally, tickets are being distributed through select hotels.
“Our goal is to transition to a fully online ticketing system within the next two to three years, ensuring a smoother experience for tourists,” Rather stated. He also expressed optimism for increased visitor numbers, anticipating surpassing last year’s 450,000 visitors, given the timing of the garden’s opening towards the end of Ramadan.
Situated between Dal Lake and the Zabarwan hills, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, spanning 55 hectares, is Asia’s largest tulip garden. Established in 2007 by former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, the garden aims to extend Kashmir’s tourism season beyond the traditional summer and winter periods. Previously known as Siraj Bagh, it now serves as a key attraction, signaling the start of the region’s spring tourism season.
