National Conference president Farooq Abdullah announced on Saturday that his party is prepared to petition the Supreme Court if there’s an undue delay in restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters after a party meeting in Kokernag, South Kashmir, Abdullah emphasized the public’s desire for immediate resolution of their issues, which he stated is being hindered by the lack of statehood. “After the elections, people wanted their issues to be resolved immediately, but statehood (not being restored) is stopping us,” he explained, noting that demands for positions like a minister for Altaf Kaloo are impossible without statehood.
“We are waiting, but if they (Centre) take a long time then we will have no option but to go to the Supreme Court,” Abdullah affirmed, expressing hope that with statehood, the region will regain its full powers.
